Assorted Comet Goldfish (Carassius auratus)

The comet goldfish is a large species of carp, adults will typically reach 10-12" long and live 15 or more years. This fish is often mistreated due to the misconception that they will be perfect beginner fish for small tanks. While it's true their care is not complicated and they are hardy fish, improper care will drastically shorten their lifespan, stunt their growth, and may cause deformities as they age. They are not usually an aggressive fish, however their insatiable appetites can lead them to outcompete slower fish or even eat ones that they may fit in their mouths. While these fish can be kept in large tanks, we recommend them for private ponds.
